TESTIMONIALS

I am 63 and have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), at the secondary progressive stage. It was suggested that Pilates might help, as this is a form of passive exercise would help with my core strength & hopefully realign my body and help with co-ordination. This is where Andy Pearson’s skilled instruction came to my aid.

Andy has taught me to focus on my breathing which helps me concentrate on the core muscles of the abdomen and the expansion of the chest. I also now use muscles that have been sedentary for many years and it is a wonderful feeling to let go of the muscle tension.

I have since had a re-evaluation of my spine's alignment and there has been a marked improvement that has meant less back pain. My energy, co-ordination, flexibility and muscle tone are much better.

I really like Palates! In fact I think I like it more than yoga. I think the work we are doing is much more supportive and healthy for me and I can see now that I was getting a lot out of the classes.

Loved the classes and also being able to control breathing and be in control of certain muscle groups. My core is definitely so much stronger and I am now able to do so much more without involving my back!!!!

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME – ANDY P.

I have doing Pilates for over 9 years to help me with my own back problems.

I was only when I committed to Pilates and stopped the yoga and other more impact heavy activities that I really began to repair rather than just manage my back pain.

As for training I'm Polestar trained - I've been teaching in Brighton for two years and do a lot of work with the M.S. centre in Southwick. Before that I used to help out the sister in-law in her amazing studio in Edinburgh in exchange for free classes, which is where I got hooked on the idea of teaching myself.

I was so transformed, by Pilates, after it saved me from my long term back pain that I trained to teach. Pilates continues to shape my body and life with its holistic blend of breath, movement and mind/body awareness. Fully trained and qualified in the excellent POLESTAR method, I am glad to have found a home at the Dyke Road Clinic, and look forward to helping as many people as I can reach their life goals with a stronger mind/body connection. WHAT WILL PILATES GIVE ME

WHAT WILL PILATES GIVE ME?

Strength, Flexibility, Tone and Balance. Pilates is a gentle form of exercise that literally re-introduces you to your own body. And the better you understand your body and how it works, the easier it will be for you to release tension, relax and beat the stresses and strains of life. With a series of mat based exercises, Pilates is designed to strengthen and engage your core waist and lower back muscles, helping improve posture and prevent injury. Pilates will tone muscles creating a happier body and more fluid movement. You will be more aware of your muscles and how they support your body, creating an excellent mind body connection, and providing a great way to relax and beat stress.

IMPROVE YOUR BALANCE AND CO-ORDINATION

Pilates helps improve your balance and co-ordination by realigning your spine and strengthening your "core" muscles. And better balance and co-ordination means fewer injuries.

DEVELOPMENT OF A STRONG, FLEXIBLE BODY

The idea behind Pilates is that if your core abdominal muscles are strong and tone, the rest of your body will be able to follow their lead. The purpose of practicing Pilates is to allow for free and graceful movement among all your body parts.

RELEASE OF TENSION

A great deal of lower back pain comes from poor posture and our daily mistreatment of our spines. By re-aligning your spine and improving your posture, lower back pain can often be eliminated entirely.

INCREASE YOUR STRENGTH AND STAMINA

Pilates helps increase both your strength and stamina without adding unwanted muscle bulk because it focuses on developing your "core" muscles - muscles found in your abdominal and pelvic regions as well as in your back. By toning and stretching these muscles, and by correcting your posture, your natural strength and stamina will improve in leaps and bounds.

YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO TRY PILATES

As we get older, the prospect of going to a gym or running may no longer appeal, but we still benefit immensely from regular exercise. Pilates could be just what you are looking for. Low impact weight bearing exercise helps increase blood flow and maintain and even build bone density.
